U.S. Army Medical Corps contract surgeon's uniform worn by Dr. Loy McAfee during World War I
This is one of nearly eighty uniforms collected by the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America to represent women's roles in World War I. Between 1918 and 1922 the society deposited the uniforms it collected in the Smithsonian. They remained on loan until 1997, when the collection was formally donated.
