 | Furnace salesman's kit, 1920s
Walter G. Bennett used this demonstration kit to sell Holland warm-air furnaces to homeowners during the 1920s. In 1981 Bennett's son offered his father's kit to the Smithsonian. Appropriately, his letter began with a sales pitch: "Has the Museum ever commemorated that great American institution, the salesman? . . . I hope you can use this kit; it would please me to know that some part of my father's life was made a part of this country's history."
