To vividly illustrate the concept of a multicultural twentieth-century America in the Bicentennial exhibition A Nation of Nations, curators created a dazzling display of colorful neon signs from ethnic restaurants. In exchange for donating their old signs, restaurant owners were given brand new ones, courtesy of the Smithsonian.
