 | Girl Scout uniform, 1970s
In documenting popular culture and everyday life, the Smithsonian has collected objects that represent Americans' participation in social, educational, and civic organizations. In 1987 curators created a special exhibition in honor of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Girl Scouts of America, featuring uniforms and memorabilia donated by former Girl Scouts and the organization itself.
