Miniature log cabin, 1840
In the 1840 U.S. presidential race, the Whig party identified its candidate, William Henry Harrison, with the log cabin, a symbol of the common man. This log cabin, carried in campaign parades, came to the Smithsonian in 1961 as part of the Ralph E. Becker Collection of Political Americana.
